Summertime and the living's easy...

It's a little bit random, but it's been so nice out in the city recently that I thought I'd take some sub-par quality pictures and share. I love the park when it's full of people (never too many, though, because Strawberry Fields near Central Park South is so much nicer and less crowded than Great Lawn) who sit around in circles amongst close friends, chatting up a storm, playing music, having a bite to eat or even smoking a hookah. I love this city!

The Neighborhoods Issue

I would like to quickly applaud New York Magazine for it's amazing "Neighborhoods Issue" - an issue described as "Fifty ’hoods from across the five boroughs ranked, considering factors from housing stock to nightlife, by the statistical analyst Nate Silver; the mutual contempt between Williamsburg’s two primary populations; the quest to define, create, and sell a new neighborhood in the middle of Manhattan; and much, much more." This one was particularly interesting - 50 New York neighborhoods are ranked (Park Slope is in first place) and given short captions explaining and analyzing said ranks, alongside snapshots of the locales. My favorite spread in the issue, however, is the "Locals (A neighborhood is nothing without its characters)" by Bennett Marcus (images shown in this post) - each one is unique and eccentric in his or her own way, not to mention photographed beautifully by Andreas Laszlo Konrath. Love!

A Bevy of Big Bows

Marc by Marc Jacobs.

I remembered them when I saw the runway show playing on the screens at Bloomingdale's uptown.

Such an adorable trend - one that's surely making its way over to S/S 2010.
I'm sensing a DIY...

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Green man! (Charlie from "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia")

I'm sorry, sir, but your 1/48th Irish-ness does NOT make me want to kiss you.

I hate to sound like Debbie O'Downer but sometimes I think St. Paddy's day celebrators can take the festivities a little too far. The dressing in green is legit (especially considering the fact that you can potentially get some pretty sweet deals on drinks if you're decked out in green). I do enjoy and am thoroughly entertained by the fact that some go a little crazy overboard with this (I'm talking full-on green Guido velour tracksuit complete with beads and head wear - hilarious). My main issue here, though, is how do all these people get out of work? It felt like everyone was out today, clad in green and drunk as hell! I was stuck inside at a desk while green groups paraded the streets of Manhattan, chanting incoherent nothings for the sake of making noise. It sounded oh-so-fun! Unfortunately, I did see a couple overly-inebriated St. Patrick's day enthusiasts regurgitating green beer a little too early for my personal well-being (which is too early all the time, really). However, apart from a couple buffoons who decided to offer something involving good luck and a metaphorical shamrock, it seems everyone was enjoying themselves (and the beautiful weather we've been having (finally!)).

Here are a few images that make me green with envy! (I just had to do it).

Lila Horn - the finale

I'm so glad to finally be able to bring into your hearts, souls and browser history the magnificence of the ones that got away. I love these earrings and am so disappointed in myself for not opting to get them because I think about them a lot. And by a lot I mean an unhealthy amount. Like, seriously though. They're beautiful and change colors in the light depending on the angle at which you look at them. The bright blue and gold is such a striking combination that seems perfectly true to the Indian aesthetic of Lila Horn as a whole.

I sigh in awe of the weighty golden ear spheres... (Photos by Kevin Colombu)

things to look at

A mirror at home - one of those mistake-pictures-that-turn-out-surprisingly-nicely.

I love these two dresses - the white one is a bit too short for my personal taste, but I adore the open front.

Another streetbot! - on a wall this time - found downtown NYC, near Delancey.

On my coffee cup - made me laugh and blush at the same time. :)

a Leica Gallery adventure

Here's one of those my-friend's-boyfriend's-mom's-sister's-aunt's-milkman-said-stories for you. My friend and I were with her brother's friend's friend who is now his friend from Shanghai. She has decided that she wants to visit all the Chinatowns so we brought her to the New York City version. It was a short excursion through rows of fake David Yurman bracelets and gentlemen in hoodies whispering "Rolex, DVD, Prada bags". When we got to Broadway we decided to go up towards Soho where we did some window shopping and had a bite to eat at so many French-New Yorker's favorite L'Orange Bleue. We continued up towards 14th street to hop back on a metro, when we walked by the Leica Gallery and decided to take a peek. First off, the gallery itself is quite the quaint locale - it's one small winding room with an exposed brick area and lots of white space filled with bold photography created using Leica cameras. We got to see the Dutch expo by Carlos Rene Perez, a New York based fine art photographer. There were some extraordinary photos that were very realistic - lots of angry, toothy cats (weirdly enough) - and some amazing lighting effects. There were some great black-and-white ones as well. If you can, you should check it out - it's free! :)

Venture into 2010

Happy New Year 2010!

Last night my lovely wifey, Miss Shannon called me from Paris at midnight (her time aka 6pm NY time) - which was magical because I was still in 2009. Do you understand the magic of the situation? She was already in 2010! I asked her if she needed anything back in 2009 or if she had forgotten to do or get something but she declined, deciding instead to go full steam into the new year. No, she is not a boat. Anyway, I'm glad the new year has begun although I have yet to decide what resolutions I'll be making...

I'd also like to point out that the televised version of NYE 2010 at Times Square (congrats to Nivea and Toshiba for the amazing marketing schemes btw) has become less and less PG-13 as they continue to show couples making out for the camera because awww it's so cute we're on TV and it's new year's! Um, no. I do not want to watch you tongue your girlfriend on television while I'm trying to enjoy drinking too much champagne with some old friends. Although, I must admit, making fun of you doing so is a wonderful and hilarious distraction to the fact that you at least got up and went out. Although, I had an amazing time with the gummy bear war and champagne-pong galore (WOOOT I see rhyming is BACK in 2010).

P.S. As part of my NYE outfit, I got cuffs! As in wonder-woman. As in amazing! So very fun to wear - I felt like someone could be shooting an AK-47 at me and I would be able to deflect each and every bullet with my wrist-eye coordination. Boom!

Let the games begin!

I'd like to know how they're going to make 2011 glasses...
