Rad Hourani

Check out Rad Hourani's choppy, funky video (un-embeddable, sorry) at http://vimeo.com/20831456 - 6 pieces, 22 looks. The best part? His is hers and hers is his. Sharing is caring! That's whatsup.

Sarah Burton

Sarah Burton's first Resort collection as creative director of Alexander McQueen - completely successful. I'm really hoping that Burton will be able to succeed this fall in creating a collection that is McQueen-esque but with her own flare. She has a knack for creating a wearable collection out of the unwearable brain children of Alexander McQueen - the gold accents with a mix of strong angles and subtle silhouettes or strong silhouettes and subtle angles, which are commonplace in the McQueen collections. The collection is highly reminiscent of the late McQueen's final collection, with warrior accents and uber-feminine fabrics, but is very easy to wear. My absolute favorite is the black dress with the one lace sleeve. Lovely.

Smokey is what smokey does

This is a print I have always been a fan of; it's so ingeniously dark, sexy and flirtatious. Alexander McQueen was truly mind-boggling.

I love prints that allow the product to be unique in it's own way - by this I mean that each piece is able to be somewhat one of a kind because no two smokey patterns can be the same. Not only did he create some very special designs, but the patterns leave room for the consumer's comfort in knowing they own something that is virtually inimitable.

Now that's exceptional talent!

H. Williams

I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Heather Williams at work the other day. She used to be the senior designer at Calvin Klein footwear. It was more like "Wow - you're shoes are ridiculously amazing!", to which she responded "Thanks! I design them, you should stop by the showroom; it's right next door!" Ok, that many exclamation points probably isn't necessary, but I felt the enthusiasm run through my veins! Anyway, she told me that she moved to Milan a couple years ago to study the Italian shoe and handbag craftsmanship, which triggered her new eponymous solo venture, H. Williams. I have yet to check out the showroom, but she gave me her card and I went to the website in the meantime. I love the zippered stilettos (she was wearing the purple suede cut outs above) and the little leather booties are fabulous!

Newspaper

This one's actually made from pages out of a telephone book.

Creative people rock.

Now I know this is surely an idea older than the Roman Empire (yes it is, and don't call me Shirley), but I wanted to share with you a collection of garments created entirely out of newspaper by some very imaginative designers. Feel free to contribute to the visual goodness if you have any other suggestions (a.k.a. links, images, entire sites devoted to this kind of genius?)

First three are the highest scorers on last season's Project Runway, when they had the designers create a look using only newspaper, glue and dye (if they chose to color the newspaper).
